Author's note. With apologies to Pam Ayres on whose marvellous poem
'SLING ANOTHER CHAIR LEG ON THE FIRE,
MOTHER' this little offering is based.
Pull
Another Rod Out Of The Reactor, Chip.
by
Pat. Cave
Pull
another rod out of the reactor, Chip,
We'll
all huddle up to it's light,
We'll
sit here and wait to be rescued
Even if it takes them all night.
Pull
another rod out of the reactor, Chip,
We'll
amuse ourselves with tales of Nelson and Stark,
And
if the overhead lighting fails us
That's
alright, 'cos we'll be glowing in the dark.
Come
with me out to A Dock, Lee,
We
haven't been there for a week or so,
We'll
bow our heads and gaze in silent homage
At
the empty waters far below.
We'll
think of when we had a submarine there,
Which used to take us out in rain or shine,
Before
we struck that rock which sank us,
And
we'll make believe we saved her, one more time.
