THE CAPTAIN’S SHIP’S LOG

By Seaview Siren.

Hello again, Lee here and I am worried tonight, worried about the Admiral, he’s acting a little strange and I've been through my checklist already.  I don't think he is an alien as he's been on the phone to his Institute most of the afternoon.  I also don't think he is paranoid as Doc is happy in sickbay without a bruised jaw!  It's just, something doesn't feel right.

Maybe I'm being too suspicious, I do tend to be, but not without good reason as you never know what's going to happen aboard this submarine.  Incidentally I'm not paranoid, at least I don't think I am!

I'm certain I haven't been taken over or I wouldn't be here writing this, I'd be trying to destroy Seaview, maybe the Admiral is.  Maybe he just wanted me to think he was talking to the Institute!

I think I best check on him again….

Well I'm back and he's not in the circuitry room or the reactor room, or the missile room, just the night watch who must think I'm barmy!

I tried his cabin door but it's locked, why has he locked himself in I wonder, he must be plotting something.

I guess I'm gonna have to stay awake and try and catch him out, I can't have him loose on the sub, he's too dangerous, I have to protect the crew……where's my gun?

Where did I put it for safety?

Found it, in my underwear drawer!

Well you can’t be too careful around here.

I'll have another scout round for him shortly, it’s all very tiring, I think when I do find him I'll lock him up!

I need some sleep really but how can I sleep with the Admiral on the loose somewhere aboard.

He wouldn't be in the crew’s quarters would he?

It's the last time I'm going down there, what a racket!  All that snoring and that was just Chief Sharkey!  I had to ask, woke Patterson up,  well I had to take his ear muffs off first.  He hasn't seen the Admiral, gave me a funny look and asked if I needed help!

Well it's midnight and I can't find him anywhere, I've tried listening at his cabin door with a glass for any snoring but I can't hear any.  I'm very unsettled now, too unsettled to sleep.

Been to the galley to make myself some cocoa, the Admiral isn't down there.  Maybe the cocoa will relax me a little.  We're on course, all instrumentation is working fine, no reports of any troubles.  The night watch officer is giving me funny looks, I'm not going back to the control room again tonight.  Damn! I didn't check the flying sub did I?

Well the flying sub was clear, what an excuse I gave, wanting to check the pilot’s seat because it felt lose!

I couldn't get out of there quick enough, I’m sure they must be doubting my sanity by now.

Maybe that's it, maybe that's what the Admiral is trying to do, make me look incompetent!

That must be it, but why?  Does he want me off the sub?

No body looks after the submarine like I do.

The Admiral must be in his cabin, I know.  I’ll crawl through the vent, I'll be able to see him.  That's what I'll do, I’ll be back!

*********

Hello again ship’s log, I've been in sickbay, well the Admiral caught me in his vent last night and asked me what was the matter, I had to tell him the truth and he sent me down here to get a physical!

Doc says I'm paranoid!

Paranoid me, what a load of rubbish, I’m responsible for this submarine and everyone aboard it.

Maybe I am paranoid.

I'm sure the Admiral has put him up to it!
